Visual Arts Building:  The Dedication

Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 was a wonderful day in the history of the University of Iowa's School of Art and Art History.

Video Tour of the Visual Arts Building

From its remarkable open atrium which brings into the structure one of the most critical elements to a visual arts curriculum -- natural light -- to its striking exterior facade, external terraces, and fabricated-by-UI-art-students door handles, the University of Iowa's new Visual Arts Building is a source of great inspiration and creativity.

Carrying on the UI's Creative Legacy

The University of Iowa’s new Visual Arts Building is the second arts facility on the UI campus designed by Steven Holl Architects. Steve McGuire, professor and area head of the Studio Division of the UI School of Art and Art History, provides an introduction to the UI's creative legacy and how that legacy will continue in this latest and striking addition to the UI arts campus..

Your support is important

In stewardship of the UI's rich tradition in the arts, the University of Iowa Foundation is conducting a $30 million campaign for private gift support for replacement facilities for Hancher, the School of Music, and the School of Art and Art History. The Arts & Minds campaign calls for a restoration of campus infrastructure, and, therefore, a strengthening of the UI's arts programs.
